About Union Capital

Union Capital is an Egyptian SME focused private equity firm, based in Cairo, Egypt. Union Capital was established in the beginning of 2008 by Dr. Hani Sarie El-Din, the former chairman of the Egyptian Capital Markets Authority (“CMA”), and Ms Minoush Abdel-Meguid an investment banker who served as Assistant to the Chairman and Head of the Corporate Finance Division of the CMA.

It was established with the specific and unique purpose to invest in growth and expansion capital opportunities of the Small and Medium Enterprise (“SME”) sector in Egypt.

Union Capital is the first private equity fund in Egypt to be uniquely focused on the SME investment space. Historically the majority of private equity transactions in Egypt have been in buyouts of large existing businesses or of green field financing. The founders of Union Capital saw the requirement and opportunity to establish a fund which provides private equity to the space between established companies and green-field start-ups.

Our objective is to provide equity capital for growth and expansion. Our investment selection process is therefore geared toward financing those companies looking to grow through the transfer, adaptation and commercialization of existing technologies.

To date Union Capital has established its first fund with a size of EGP150 million, Union Capital Private Equity I

Our first Fund offers investors the opportunity to achieve a robust rate of return from a combination of capital gains and income from equity investments in small medium sized businesses in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
